Key Findings & Highlights:

UKG is a privately owned corporation that provides full-suite solutions and extended services for managed payroll, as well as stand-alone products, focused on WFM and HCM technology and services.

UKG was formed in 2020 through the merger of Ultimate Software and Kronos, creating capability across global WFM (via Kronos) and full suite HCM (via UKG Ready and UKG Pro). The organization also had an established benefits administration, tax/payment, and payroll service offering. Over the last few years, UKG has been integrating its product set while also making strategic acquisitions. A key development was the 2021 acquisition of Great Place To Work Institute, Inc., an authority on workplace culture. This acquisition has helped drive UKG’s benchmark and insights capability across all its products and services.

In July 2023 it acquired Immedis, a global payroll provider with technology and services supporting clients in ~117 countries, with the ability to support customers in 160 countries. The acquisition added multi-country payroll capability to the UKG suite of solutions and with this capability, it has since launched UKG One View, a global payroll model integrated into the two UKG HCM platforms, UKG Pro and UKG Ready.

UKG has two strategic HCM technology suites (with NelsonHall-estimated client and employee counts):

  • UKG Pro, for global HCM and WFM (~9k clients): designed for midsized to large enterprise firms with >1.5k employees
  • UKG Ready (~8k clients): tailored for North American SMB firms with <1.5k employees and EMEA and ANZ midsize organizations with up to 2.5k employees. UKG Ready has a network of ~200 resellers selling all or part of the UKG HCM suite in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Its reseller channel accounts for ~40k clients.

Add-on capability for UKG HR Service Delivery (~5k clients) includes employee file and case management, including a knowledge base portal. The company has been investing in its AI offering, UKG Bryte, which is available for a wide range of use cases across the UKG Ready and UKG Pro platforms. UKG also has additional global clients on older legacy and acquired company solutions.

In total, UKG supports ~80k organizations in 150 countries and has a physical presence in major geographies across North America, South America, EMEA, APAC, and LATAM.
