Report Outline:
Northgate Public Services has been awarded a contract to provide a new national IT system for the NHS Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programme. The new system, Newborn Blood Spot Failsafe Solution, has been developed by Northgate Public Services in partnership with the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC), NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia and the Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programmes and will be implemented across England in 2013/14.
The system is to be rolled out to all maternity and child health service providers in >400 locations. It is to be integrated with diagnosis systems in 13 regional laboratories. It will use demographic data from the core IT infrastructure currently used by the UK National Screening Committee, and which is run by Northgate PS to support:
- The Newborn Hearing Screening
- Newborn Physical Examinations
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening systems that Northgate PS provides for those programmes.
The screening is for a number of serious genetic conditions, such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease.
