Citation policy overview

As stated in the standard NelsonHall Terms & Conditions (March 2013), "The Client is responsible for ensuring that its personnel protect NelsonHall research documents and other work products from unauthorized access and breach of IP. The client agrees that it will put in place processes and communicate to users their duty to protect NelsonHall research documents and other work products to ensure that they are not wholly, or in part, distributed to, or accessible by, personnel outside the Client organization. This includes sub-contractors working for the Client organization and any third-parties including other consultancies, analyst and advisory firms.

However, in certain circumstances, the Client may use excerpts from, or otherwise reference, NelsonHall research documents for external use only upon obtaining prior written approval from NelsonHall. All such usage must comply with the guidelines defined in this NelsonHall Citation Policy document.

The Client is granted a license to use the Services (including data and information) provided by NelsonHall to support internal marketing, strategic planning, and business development functions and for no other purpose. This includes the right to quote or paraphrase individual sentences or occasional paragraphs, but not entire pages or chapters, with the exception of the work product published within NelsonHall Vendor Evaluation and Assessment (NEAT) projects (see NEAT Citation Policy).

For these purposes "internal" use means uses intended only to serve the information needs of the Client (as distinguished from its suppliers, affiliates, and customers) and only to be seen by the Client's officers, employees, and contractors obligated to treat such information as confidential. For all internal usage, Client agrees to source NelsonHall by name. Client shall not sublicense, lease, sell, transfer or assign (including through a change of control by merger or otherwise) this License, or use the Services in any manner which violates this license or any applicable laws.

Except as expressly provided herein, reproduction of NelsonHall's work product in any form or by any means (including but not limited to use in any social media, traditional print media, event banners, posters, internet postings, or other public display) without NelsonHall's prior written permission is prohibited. Client represents that it has or will put in place procedures to promote compliance with the above restrictions; that it will monitor compliance on its own and as requested by NelsonHall; and that in the event of a breach or alleged breach of these restrictions it will provide NelsonHall with access and cooperation to enable NelsonHall to audit compliance. Upon request, Client agrees to provide NelsonHall with evidence of such compliance.

Obtaining citation approval

For non-NelsonHall-clients, email [email protected] to discuss your citation request.

For active NelsonHall clients, all citation requests should be sent to the Client's designated account manager, who will liaise with NelsonHall's Client Relationship Director to seek approval. Approval requests will be dealt with within two business days of receipt of the Client request.

You should include in your email:

  • The company/organization you are working on behalf of
  • Details of what you are citing (the exact text/graphics, plus the source of this information), the full context of where, when, and how it will appear, and any screenshots/mockups you have of this
  • The timeframe of your request

NEAT citation policy

The Client right to quote or paraphrase individual sentences or occasional paragraphs granted in Section 1 does not apply to NelsonHall Vendor Evaluation and Assessment (NEAT) projects.

NEAT-related "publication and re-use rights", together with the permission to quote from the findings of these studies are separately chargeable optional items, priced per project and not covered by the Client's subscription to NelsonHall research programs. However, the NEAT research and tools will be provided, within each program to which the Client subscribes, for the Client's internal use as added value within the Client's subscription. The Client acknowledges that this access is only for their internal use and NEAT-related content must not be referenced to, or quoted to, the Client's customers or other third-parties.

Where the Client has purchased NEAT "publication and re-use rights" (otherwise referred to as "reprint rights"), then NelsonHall grants the purchasing organization the following rights:

  • The right to reproduce the individual NEAT graph or graph(s) purchased, in its/their entirety without modification
  • Use of the NEAT statement: "Vendor X was identified as a "Leader/High Achiever/Innovator/Major Player" in NelsonHall's NEAT vendor evaluation for (name of NEAT) (name of market segment(s))"
  • Use of extracts from the vendor summary and vendor assessment covering the purchasing vendor within the NEAT projects and from the market analysis associated with the NEAT project

Note that NelsonHall will not sanction any variation or embellishment to the standard form of wording above. A separate statement applies to each NEAT graph purchased.

The purchase of NEAT reprint rights does not grant the purchaser access to the wider NEAT tool, or the right to provide modified views of the NEAT graphs developed either via user-specified weightings or otherwise.
