It is organized into three business segments: Health, Wealth, and Career. Its businesses are described below:

  • Health: global benefits administration technology and service provided under Mercer Marsh Benefits
  • Wealth: consisting of DB administration and the Mercer Pension Manager
  • Career: includes leadership and organization performance, technology solutions, workforce analytics and planning, communication, rewards, executive compensation, mobility, and Workday deployment capability.

In 2023, Mercer, a business of Marsh McLennan, sold its U.S. health and benefits administration and U.K. pension administration businesses to Bain Capital Insurance, leading to the creation of a new company named Aptia. Mercer retained its global benefits management and employee engagement technology platform, Darwin, and its U.S. pension administration services. Darwin (formerly Thomsons Online Benefits) was initially acquired by Mercer in 2016.

Today, Darwin has ~756 personnel delivering benefits administration to ~600 benefits administration clients (~3.3m employees).
