Report Outline:
Key Findings & Highlights:
The key business issues faced by energy companies include the need to reduce/control costs, particularly in their supply chain and energy infrastructure while investing, and modernizing, in their energy network infrastructure.
Energy companies perceive cloud to play a key role in bringing down the cost of IT while facilitating the business' access to technology. In addition, cloud is typically seen as primarily a tool for reducing IT costs rather than wider business costs.
At present the bulk of cloud deployments in the energy sector are in support of email and collaborative applications. In the short-term, this deployment in support of "edge", typically collaborative, applications will continue, being joined by extensive deployment of cloud, both private and public in support of IT development environments.
Security used to be regarded as the major inhibitor of cloud adoption. However, the major concerns of energy companies are now vendor lock-in and loss of control.
