Key Findings & Highlights:

NTT Data Communications Systems Corporation was spun off as a separate company from NTT in 1988, subsequently changing its name to NTT Data Corporation in 1996. Although now a separate company, NTT retains a 54% shareholding in NTT Data and NTT Data works jointly with other companies in the NTT Group to deliver services to clients.

NTT Data initially rolled out its cloud services in 2010 and opened data centers in support of its cloud services in the U.S., U.K. Australia, and Brazil in 2013 and 2014. In March 2016, NTT Data announced that it will acquire Dell Services for $3.06bn. The two companies appear to have complementary offerings and heritage, with NTT Data bringing the application experience which Dell Services lacks, and Dell Services expanding NTT Data’s infrastructure services capability. Dell Services also provides NTT Data with a broader footprint in the North American market.

NTT Global owns and operates over 200 data centers globally, primarily under its NTT Communications group but also including those owned through subsidiaries, such as Netmagic in India and RagingWire Data Centers in the U.S. NTT Data has data centers in the following locations: Germany, Italy, Poland, Hong Kong and Shanghai China, Malaysia, Singapore, Tokyo and Osaka Japan, Korea, Sacramento, CA and Ashburn, VA USA.

The acquisition of Dell Services is NTT Data’s opportunity to expand its cloud migration and management practice. Dell brings a number of industry vertical focused solutions that NTT Data has already identified as a growth driver. As part of the merger announcement, NTT Data acknowledged that Dell’s financial services and public sector practice will more than double its presence in those industries, across all offerings.
